On 14 April 2021 Drs Punch, Trafford and Fehlberg presented a series of Upper GI surgery cases managed as at Lismore Base Hospital and St Vincent's Private Hospital, Lismore. The session was facilitated by Dr Ruth Tinker. The presentation can also be viewed directly on Vimeo.

Dr. Gratian Punch
Specialist General Surgeon
Dr. Gratian Punch subspecialty interests include Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB), Upper-Gastrointestinal (Upper GI), bariatric, skin cancer, hernia, thyroid and trauma surgery. Dr Punch advanced his sub-specialty training with the Australia and New Zealand Hepatic, Pancreatic and Biliary Association (ANZHPBA). Commencing in 2016 the Fellowship in HPB Surgery involved two-years of clinical training and research in high volume, mixed HPB and Upper GI units dedicated to the full spectrum of benign to oncological management of complex HPB/Upper GI surgical care. In 2018 Gratian returned home to the Northern Rivers and works at the Lismore Base Hospital, Casino and District Memorial Hospital, Ballina District Hospital and St Vincent’s Private.
Dr. Trafford Fehlberg
Specialist General Surgeon
Trafford is a Staff Specialist General Surgeon working at Lismore Base Hospital, Ballina District Hospital and Casino & District Memorial Hospital. Trafford enjoys the variety general surgery has to offer and has started the general surgical public outpatient clinic at Lismore Base Hospital. Trafford is originally from Newcastle and graduated from the University of Newcastle in 2009. After obtaining his FRACS in General Surgery in 2017 he undertook further training in Upper GI surgery as a Fellow at Geelong Hospital. He has an interest in surgical education and surgery in the developing world and has been fortunate to spend a year working in Timor-Leste with the ATLASS-II program, working as a surgeon and training the surgical diploma doctors. Outside of surgery Trafford enjoys spending time on his farm in The Channon with his wife and son (who was born this year in January and is unfortunately too young to do much of the heavy lifting yet)!
Dr Kyle Bender
General Surgeon
Kyle is a General Surgeon employed full time in the Australian Army. His main subspecialty is Upper GIT surgery having completed one year fellowships at Nepean Hospital and Bankstown Hospital in Sydney, as well as a year of General, Upper GIT and Endocrine Surgery at the Northern Beaches Hospital. He has particular interests in the management of Gastro-oesophageal Reflux, shared upper-GIT cancer care and complex gallstone disease including ERCP. His interest in Military surgery has taken him to Papua New Guinea and to the Middle East where he was deployed to work in the US led coalition hospital in Baghdad. Kyle has interests in trauma and surgical education which he satisfies as an instructor on the Definitive Surgery Trauma Care and Early Management of Severe Trauma Courses. He is a new addition to the General Surgery Service at Lismore Base Hospital having completed 18 months of training at Lismore as a Registrar as part of the Royal North Shore Hospital training network.
