Nordocs started life as the Northern Rivers Division of General Practice in 1993. It was developed under funding arrangements from the Australian Federal government. These arrangements continued until April 2012. Today it carries on its work as a support organisation for doctors on the Far North Coast of New South Wales.
The aims of the organisation are to improve the standards of medical practice through advocacy, research, communication and education and through these activities to improve the health of the North Coast population. Nordocs runs an annual conference for its members to come together and share their knowledge, experience and interests with their colleagues.
In the past Nordocs has published a quarterly newsletter GPSpeak (later renamed Nordocs Magazine) to promote the aims of the organisation. During the Covid-19 pandemic it produced a series of online videos by and for local doctors.
