North Coast Radiology has installed their new MRI scanner at St Vincent's Hospital. The 3 tesla Siemens unit gives finer images than the 16 year old scanner it replaced.
Dr Andrew Hooper says the unit gives much finer detail in a shorter period of time.
GPs are limited in the Medicare reimbursable MRI scans they can order but the quality of the images allows a diagnosis in many soft injuries, says Dr Hooper. Patients are often willing to pay privately to get a confirmed diagnosis.
