The new Byron Central Hospital (BCH) in Ewingsdale is hosting a Community Open Day on Saturday 9 April 2016, with free guided tours to give the public a preview of the facility.

The 30-minute tours of the new hospital will visit key areas such as the Emergency Department, Inpatient Unit, and Birthing Unit. To ensure the smooth scheduling of tours, visitors are asked to register their preferred time.

The $88M hospital is funded by the NSW Government and brings together the full range of acute and ambulatory care (community health and nursing, allied health) services now provided in Mullumbimby, Bangalow, and Byron Shires.

Some services will be at an expanded level, while top-class enhancements such as CT and Ultrasound will now be available closer to where residents live.

The NNSW LHD’s operational commissioning period is well under way and staff are now being oriented to their new workplace. When the hospital opens, all services at Byron Bay and Mullumbimby Hospitals, and Bangalow Community Health, will be decommissioned.

Staff from the various departments will be on hand to answer questions, and displays will show how the project progressed from a paddock to a modern, purpose-built hospital in little more than a year.

Byron Central Hospital is located on Ewingsdale Road, Ewingsdale (6km from Byron Bay, 600m from M1 Pacific Motorway). Enter from either direction via the roundabout at the main entrance. On-site parking will be available.
